Protecting Our Data

If you had an embarassing medical condition you would not want your friends - or maybe your employer - to find out about it just by asking your doctor, would you? And if you had a driving conviction you would not want your bank manager to find out and react by closing your account......

None of us want businesses to pass our details amongst each other without our permission, nor do we like their sales people to pester us on the phone......

And you probably would not want your employer, or your bank manager, or government departments, to hold details about your privately held political or religious beliefs......

The Solution?.....

The one thing that keeps us safe from this kind of intrusive prying and unwanted use of our personal details is the Data Protection Act 1998. It is a part of data protection legislation that has been in place in the UK since 1984. The Act imposes restrictions on what any company or organisation may do with our personal data.

This online course is about the Data Protection Act and what you need to do to abide by it in the course of your employment.
